our desperate is showing
It rarely surfaces, can't be coaxed, and is only said when it is genuine. Some people give it out regularly...it gains allies, surface friendships, faux cheek kisses. I can't find it in myself to do it. Compliments and praise rarely escape these lips, and if it does, I mean it from my being. Ultimately, we want to feel good. We want to know people are listening, caring, acknowledging our opinions, solidifying our value.
If we were sufficient in our attention, we wouldn't seek it out. There wouldn't be blogs, youtube, bulletins, updates, twitter, facebook, myspace...your mom. The laundry list of ways to affirm our self worth seem to grow as attention whores multiply in numbers, and the need for attention through mediums that make us feel as if we aren't 'a needy loser' are growing. Basically, if someone wanted to know what was going on they would ask. Mass attention and easy access knowledge without a real friendship is creating lots of information with very few people who care about it. We are all whores...attention whores. Brilliant are the ones who figured out how to pimp their whoreness by selling ad space. It would be interesting to see who would make the effort to know you if it wasn't just 'there', or displayed so easily. New social mediums; extending the shallowness of highschool type friendships to the masses. Aces. Btw, you have a little bit of obvious on your face, and your soul is showing.
